Almost Single: Book Review
Almost Single is one heck
of a book that will do to the readers what it did to me; make them “Giggle”
throughout the journey of reading.
I really got impressed with the introduction
of the protagonist, at the back cover and picked this one for reading. The book
is all about Aisha Bhatia who works as a Guest Relations Officer in a Five Star
hotel in Delhi. In her twenty nineth age, when she is still single, she shares
with the readers her dilemmas – how the world looks at her, how her mom nags
her for marriage, the stories of her friends in similar situations, her work
life, etc.. She portrays beautifully the lighter side of her everyday’s life –
pompous show made at her hotel for VIPs, her boss’s affair with his
sister-in-law, her friend’s trick on her ex-husband post breakup of marriage,
Aisha’s attempt to hook up her friend’s ex-husband with a random girl, the
drinks, the Pakistani cricketer’s visit, and the final dramatic climax. Storywise,
the book doesn’t offer much, it is just a string of incidents, and Aisha meets
an NRI Karan, meets him again and again, by destiny or whatever, when they
slowly fall in love with each other. But what makes the book an interesting
read is the tasteful snippets splattered across by the author. Go in for it, it
makes a nice, light hearted coffee time read, but don’t expect it to fill your
brains.
