Safe Haven Book Review

Since I have been reading Nicholas Sparks’ books for quite sometime, I know what to expect from his book, when I pick it – A soft intriguing love story, with the hero and heroines as benign as they ever can be, blissful times disrupted into gloomy days just to end on the fact that love emerges as the winner in spite of all circumstances. This book “Safe Haven” not an exception to the norm, has it all but in addition, this book is spiced up with mystery and suspense. It starts with the mysterious Katie who arrives in Southport, to lead a secretive life, trying to wipe out her dark past. She works as a waitress and stays aloof forming a wall around her but only until two people – one Alex, a store owner, who lost his wife and has two children and a single neighbour – Jo, enter her life. Katie feels happiness – fear – uncertainty – sorrow – anxious, all at the same time. Alex is extremely understanding and caring and she likes his kids too. But will her past allow her to move on to...

A Walk to Remember

The Book “A Walk to Remember” truly lives up to its caption, as it takes the reader to an emotional walk. And the author Nicholas Sparks lives up to his words “First you will smile, and then you will cry-don’t say you haven’t been warned”. To put it short, it is one of those “marvellous” short stories of eternal love; short-yet very profound. It is about the two teenagers Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, how the “Lord’s Plan” fetches them together in life; only to change the life of Landon “forever”.  Landon is part of the crowd at high school while Jamie stands out, literally. Jamie is one of those rare girls, with the rarest innocence, selfless love, kindness and an unfailing faith in Lord Christ. She takes immense pleasure in helping others. According to her, there is a Lord’s plan behind everything. On the other hand, Landon is one of those spoilt brats, who had been enjoying life with friends. Somehow, by destiny or fate, they get along, fall in love, and head towards ...

Almost Single: Book Review

Almost Single is one heck of a book that will do to the readers what it did to me; make them “Giggle” throughout the journey of reading.  I really got impressed with the introduction of the protagonist, at the back cover and picked this one for reading. The book is all about Aisha Bhatia who works as a Guest Relations Officer in a Five Star hotel in Delhi. In her twenty nineth age, when she is still single, she shares with the readers her dilemmas – how the world looks at her, how her mom nags her for marriage, the stories of her friends in similar situations, her work life, etc.. She portrays beautifully the lighter side of her everyday’s life – pompous show made at her hotel for VIPs, her boss’s affair with his sister-in-law, her friend’s trick on her ex-husband post breakup of marriage, Aisha’s attempt to hook up her friend’s ex-husband with a random girl, the drinks, the Pakistani cricketer’s visit, and the final dramatic climax. Storywise, the book doesn’t offer much, i...
